about me
Hi, I’m Alberto, and I am delighted you are here.
I love cooking and I find it as the perfect way to share and care for people.
Kitchen in the Med is my personal blog for Mediterranean food and diet. I hope you will find helpful and tasty recipes here and maybe we can create a small community around them.
cooking
I am not a professional cook or chef, but I have cooked for my family for many years. It was my way of communicating and caring for them.
When I was a child, my mother worked all day, and since nobody knew how to cook in my family, I learned by doing—first, a cake, then an omelet, and so on. Then, my parents divorced, and I moved to Mexico City from Spain with my father and brother. They did not cook either, so I cooked for the three of us on many Sundays.
I moved to London, United Kingdom, Los Angeles, California, and then back to Barcelona.
During the Christmas holidays, I cooked for sometimes up to 26 family members and two meals a day for two to four days straight. Yes, I belong to one of those Sicilian-style extended families.
I could have done a better job, but I am happy with how it turned out. These are fond memories for the whole family.
I worked many years in finance, and in 2014, I took a year-long course in cooking in Hofmann, Barcelona, Spain, just for fun, with no intention of making it a career. However, the pieces moved closer when I started a small organic wine import business in New York City.
COVID and a tariff war ended all that, but my passion for cooking is still strong, and this blog is the window through which I can share it with you.
Gardening and Homesteading
I was lucky to spend my childhood holidays in the countryside near the Mediterranean Sea. The house we stayed in did not belong to my close family but to a distant uncle, and I always cherished my happy childhood memories close to nature. I always believed I would live in a small house in the country.
I have lived and worked in multiple large cities like London, Los Angeles, New York City, Barcelona, Mexico City, and other smaller towns, and I love them for weekends and holidays.
Now I long for a simpler, and in my opinion, better life in the Mediterranean countryside.
So, I am looking for a small plot of land in the Mediterranean.
This blog’s Gardening and Homesteading part aims to document my experience and “homework” notes as I prepare for this new life.
I hope these can be useful or entertaining, and I welcome your comments.
